Good News | JNG Signs Industrial Demonstration Project for Carbon Capture and Co-Production of Specialized Compound Fertilizer for Crops with Ningbo Jiufeng Thermal Power
JNG | 27 December, 2023
On December 27, JNG signed a contract with Ningbo Jiufeng Thermal Power Co., Ltd. for a 10,000-ton industrial demonstration project on carbon capture and the co-production of specialized compound fertilizer for crops.
Ningbo Jiufeng Thermal Power Co., Ltd. is a company engaged in power and heat production and supply. It has been recognized as an advanced collective in Zhejiang Province’s energy conservation and emission reduction efforts, a model (green) factory in Ningbo, and a green enterprise in Zhenhai District. Since 2009, Jiufeng Thermal Power has collaborated with JNG multiple times, successfully commissioning ammonia-based desulfurization systems for flue gas that have been running stably over long cycles.
In January 2022, JNG completed the construction of an industrial pilot unit for its carbon capture and co-production of nitrogen fertilizer technology at Jiufeng Thermal Power. In August 2022, the project passed a scientific and technological achievement appraisal organized by the China Electricity Council. Experts unanimously concluded: “The project results have reached an internationally leading level, and it is recommended for wider application, as it will provide strong technological support for China’s ‘dual carbon’ goals.” In March 2023, the project won the Excellence Award at the 2022 National Disruptive Technology Innovation Competition Finals organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The newly signed demonstration project will add a 10,000-ton/year industrial demonstration unit for carbon capture and co-production of specialized compound fertilizer for crops to the existing flue gas ammonia-based desulfurization system—marking the first of its kind in the Yangtze River Delta region. Both parties will work together to actively explore innovative applications of carbon capture technology in agriculture, jointly contributing to carbon reduction and the sustainable development of agriculture.
