Sinopec Jinling Petrochemical Company’s tail gas treatment unit contracted by JNG for its 150,000 tons per annum (tpa) sulfur recovery unit (SRU) has been running smoothly and hitting performance targets since trial operations began in October 2018, once again proving the advantages of JNG’s advanced and mature acid gas treatment technology in super-large scale SRUs. At design conditions of inlet SO2 concentration at 18000mg/Nm3, test runs measured output SO2 concentration at 20-30 mg/Nm3 and ammonia slip at and 1-2 mg/Nm3, better than the respective targets of ≤ 50mg/Nm3 and ≤ 5mg/Nm3, meeting all the performance targets and requirements set in the technical agreement.

JNG’s acid gas treatment technology is a revolutionary breakthrough in the oil and gas industry, requiring 40% less capital expenditure and operational costs than conventional methods. It results in no industrial waste and complies with the most stringent emission standards in the world. With more than 10 SRU tail gas treatment projects, starting from Datang International Keshiketeng’s 53,000 tpa SRU tail gas treatment unit in 2014, to CNOOC Dongying Petrochemical’s 12,000 tpa SRU tail gas treatment unit and the Changqing 10,000 tpa SRU tail gas treatment unit in Baoji, JNG has mastered the technology for treating substances with high SO2 concentration, amassed valuable experience and is highly recognized by the industry. China’s super-large oil refinery projects have also chosen to apply JNG’s acid gas treatment technology, including the Sino-Kuwait 10m tpa oil refinery’s 3 x 130,000 tpa SRU tail gas treatment unit in Guangdong and the Shenghong Petrochemical 16m tpa oil refinery’s 3 x 150,000 SRU tail gas treatment unit in Lianyungang, both of which are currently in construction.

JNG has an expansive global patent portfolio in acid gas treatment as it currently holds 99 Chinese patents and 142 international patents in 10 patent families in over one hundred countries and regions, covering all the core technologies in acid gas treatment and ammonia-based desulfurization.
